The plant is mentioned by Theophrastus and by Dioscorides, and was very useful in Ancient Greece since it was used as a tea , as well as flavoring sauces with it and using vinegar with thrombi as a seasoning. You have probably come across the thruby on a walk in the Greek countryside, but you will very rarely have distinguished it unless you have already smelled and seen this beautiful and unique herb. Its description will surely bring you memories, since it grows everywhere by itself throughout Greece, wherever it finds a rock. The aromas are reminiscent of oregano and thyme. It blooms in the spring and in the summer it produces beautiful pink-purple flowers. The perennial Satureja is an aromatic evergreen shrub with aromatic as well as botanical properties. It comes from various regions of the Mediterranean and especially in regions where drought conditions prevail. It has an upright growth and can reach about 50 cm in height. Its leaves are narrow, small and fragrant on its branching stems. At the tops of its shoots, its small purple or white flowers make their appearance. To prepare a “Τhrombi” decoction, pour 1-2 teaspoons into a cup of boiling water and leave for 10-15 minutes. The recommended dose is from 1-3 cups per day, preferably after meals.
